Ok, once you get to level 3s and later level 4s you will find your income from missions very lucrative.

I am on the threshold of Level 3 missions. So I haven’t done any 3’s yet, just the better quality 2’s. The problem is that they take an entire evening when I have to jump out to repair constantly. I’ve recently started to read Eve-Survival to find advice on how to get through the missions more effectively, and that’s helped a little.
Oh, and yes, I do the looting and salvaging thing as much as possible, having just fitted out a destroyer with tractor beams and salvagers to make that part of the job more efficient.
